Jaxx Dev Day: v1.0.4 is live, boasting new fixes and tweaks

Hey, Anthony from Decentral here. Many of you who have been using Jaxx for managing your DAO tokens have noticed that on the last couple of builds, Jaxx had trouble detecting DAO balances in the absence of an ETH transaction. 1.0.4 fixes this; DAO tokens sent or Shifted into Jaxx should no longer require an ETH transaction to become visible. This update is now available for all versions of Jaxx except for iOS. We are making an effort to get updates out swiftly on all versions, but Apple’s review process for iOS devices is proving to be a bit of an obstacle.

Please note that users *will* still need to have at least a small amount of ETH in DAO-holding Ethereum address(es) in order to be able to transfer their DAO tokens between accounts or out of Jaxx.

We’ve also added a couple more fiat base currency options (the Mexican peso and the Norwegian kroner). If there are users out there who want to see more added, we’d love to hear from you!

To iOS users who have been wondering when they can expect the ShapeShift update: we’re wondering the same thing. That version of Jaxx has been languishing in Apple’s review process for several times longer than normal, and we aren’t sure why. We’re just as anxious as you are!

Many of you have also been inquiring as to when our in-app DAO Voting and Proposal viewing system will be in place. We are still hard at work on it and hope to have it ready by next week. We have much of the back-end work done, we just need time to make sure that going live with it won’t adversely affect Jaxx’s general usability.

We are also still at work on RocketDAO, our web-based command centre for The DAO through which users will be able to browse, create, submit, and vote on Proposals, This is being developed in tandem and we are hoping to launch it in close proximity to the Jaxx voting capability update in order to ensure a seamless experience for all users.

Those of you who follow us on Twitter at @jaxx_io may have seen that we want the broader community’s opinion on which coins and tokens should be integrated into Jaxx next. We’ve already seen quite a few hands go up for Lisk, Dash, and Digix, but we would love to get more feedback, so please chime in at info@decentral.ca.

All versions of Jaxx can be downloaded from the Jaxx website.

Look who’s joining the Jaxx family (Day 8 of the Many Days of Jaxx)

Jaxx Dao

Today, for day 8 of the Seven Many Days of Jaxx, we’re pleased to announce that the next stage of our Jaxx DAO integration has gone live: our DAO wallet. The Android, Chrome, Desktop, and Firefox versions of Jaxx have already been updated, and the iOS version should go live within the next 24-36 hours, pending Apple’s standard review process.

The DAO has captured the imagination of the Ethereum community and beyond, and has been widely discussed in the mainstream media. For all of the chatter, there are still very few options for DAO tokenholders to actually manage their tokens.

Screen Shot 2016-06-06 at 4.51.35 PM

Jaxx 1.0.1 now has a
DAO wallet screen, which displays the current DAO token balance associated with your Jaxx Ethereum addresses. It also enables users to transfer in more DAO tokens, send them to external services, or shift/pool them between Jaxx addresses as desired. To verify which accounts were used to generate tokens, check Tools > Back Up Wallet > Display Private Keys > Display Ethereum Keys and look for the DAO icon. We do not currently have a DAO Transaction History ready, but it will be shortly.

Please note that in order to see your DAO token balance, you will need to have a pre-existing ETH transfer. Please also note that you will not be able to transfer from any DAO account that does not have an ETH balance as the transfer will require ETH. You will be prompted on the DAO wallet screen if you have DAO accounts with no ETH balance. Lastly, our multi-function camera button located on the main screen defaults to ETH view when you scan your DAO QR code. This is because we haven’t found a way to determine whether you’re scanning an Ethereum or DAO address. Best thing to do is use the normal send button and scan the QR code or paste in the address you are sending to. In our next update we’ll have a workaround wherein you are prompted which QR code type you’re scanning.

Please keep in mind that we’re developing completely new implementations of brand-new technology, and occasional roadblocks will occur. We’re working hard to make sure it works perfectly soon. If you have any questions or difficulties, please get in touch at info@kryptokit.com.

As previously announced, we’re also working on a Proposals and Voting display that will let you browse and vote on Proposals directly within Jaxx. This is a major priority for us and we hope to have it ready before the first major Proposals’ voting periods have concluded.

Last week, we unveiled RocketDAO, our web portal for browsing, creating, submitting, and voting on Proposals. RocketDAO will be powered by Jaxx and will act as your complete DAO command centre, from which you can take advantage of all The DAO has to offer.
We have a few more announcements and reveals still to come this week, so keep your eyes peeled as the Many Days of Jaxx roll on…

Announcing New Dev Tools for the Community – 7 Days of Jaxx Extended

62981e6c77b0152e6b06455eb0169cffHi there! Exalted Materialization Sorceress (aka Decentral CTO) Chris here.
First things first: We’ve lied to you; “7 Days of Jaxx” isn’t actually 7 days. We’re going to keep the announcements and launches coming well into next week with even more reveals and projects. We’re on a roll and we’re not ready to bring it to a halt just yet, in fact, some of the most exciting stuff is still to come. Today we’re announcing a new project that will be of specific interest to the Ethereum and DAO dev community.

While Ethereum is one of the most exciting decentralized technology platforms to have emerged over the last few years, the Ethereum dev community has been hampered somewhat by the limited number of comprehensive, publicly accessible points of access to the Ethereum network. As part of our continuing mission to support the Ethereum and DAO ecosystems, Decentral is pleased to announce that we’re constructing an API built on a new, full Ethereum node.

This API is being developed in conjunction with CoinFabrik, and over the course of the following month, will become available for a selective rollout with interested partners to test load balancing and request queues. Our plan is to offer the same service to the public with a lower request threshold until our deployment architecture is fully tested and tuned. What’s more, this API will support a full DAO node structure, including the ability to query addresses for their voting history and DAO token transaction history, as well as detecting which accounts are tied up in Proposals and for how long. This API will allow for greater interoperability for Ethereum web app devs and contribute to the overall health of the ecosystem by allowing for additional redundancy. If you’re interested in participating in our trial phase, please email me at chris@decentral.ca.

The first live deployment of our API (domain to be announced) will be within Jaxx itself, and is already helping to support our DAO integration process as well as our existing Ethereum functionality.

Our rollout continues tomorrow with Day 7, and will resume on Monday with Day 8.

Introducing RocketDAO: Browse, Create, Submit, Vote (7 Days of Jaxx, Day 5)

Announcing RocketDAO

It’s Day 5 of 7 Days of Jaxx, and for today’s announcement, we’re diving back into the world of The DAO. We’re still hard at work on our full DAO integration for Jaxx, and expect to have DAO token management available in-app imminently. Today’s reveal is concerned with another aspect of The DAO: browsing, creating, submitting, and voting on Proposals.

RocketDAO - Main Screen

One of the reasons The DAO has inspired so much interest in the disruptive-tech community and beyond is the way it empowers users to have a direct say in the projects and direction of a large, decentralized community. All Decentral products prioritize ease of use and friendly, accessible blockchain technology experiences designed for the masses. To this end, we’ve conceived RocketDAO, a web portal for browsing, creating, submitting, and voting on Proposals – including those that have not yet been formally submitted to The DAO – that will integrate directly with our wallet, Jaxx.

RocketDAO - Submission Screen

RocketDAO will streamline the Proposal process to ensure that DAO members can craft, submit and give feedback on Proposals with as little friction as possible. Proposal submission through RocketDAO works like this:

Gather feedback

Getting any Proposal to even reach quorum is a daunting task given the size of The DAO’s voter base. On RocketDAO, you can easily post up an initial draft of your Proposal, then hone your message and terms according to user feedback until you’re satisfied that you’ll be able to secure the support you need going forward.

Get whitelisted
If your completed Proposal features a party who will be compensated for their services, you’ll need to get the Recipient address whitelisted by The DAO’s Curators. You’ll be able to apply directly from RocketDAO, and be notified when you’ve been greenlit.

RocketDAO - Payment Screen

Submit your finished proposal
Once you’re approved by the Curators, all you need to do is pay The DAO’s Proposal submission fee. RocketDAO presents you with a payment QR code that can be scanned by either the mobile/tablet or browser extension versions of Jaxx to facilitate the payment in seconds.

Track your progress
After you’ve completed your Proposal submission, you can track its progress and its popularity throughout the voting period.

RocketDAO will act as a marketplace and proving ground for all DAO token holders to browse, discuss and vote on Proposals. Voting will also work directly with Jaxx via our imminent DAO integration, which will also support voting and proposal browsing. Micropayments to The DAO will be required for leaving comments, in order to support the ecosystem and minimize trolling.

RocketDAO - Detailed Proposal

You can expect RocketDAO to launch shortly after our full DAO integration for Jaxx has gone live. Look for more details on that shortly as 7 Days of Jaxx continues…
